Bristwestival: Twitterati coming together for charity
On Thursday March 25th, Twitter users from Bristol and all over the country will be gathering together to help raise money for a well-deserved charity at BRISTWESTIVAL.
The South West’s Twitterati will be gathering at The Tunnels, the new music venue in two former railway arches next to Bristol Temple Meads, for the second Twitter festival in Bristol – at the same time as 185 other cities around the world.
The first Bristwestival, held at The Lanes last year, raised nearly £1,500 for charity:water through a night of music, networking and, of course, tweeting. This year, with the rise in popularity of Twitter, promises to be bigger and better. The event is aiming to raise nearly £3,000 for Concern Worldwide, an international humanitarian organisation that aims to transform the lives of the world’s poorest, most marginalised children through education.
To add to money raised from ticket sales, there will be a good ol’ fashioned raffle, with items and services provided by companies from all over the South West. The prize pile is growing daily and today alone saw the addition of a PS3 and a lobster and champagne dinner for two!
With tickets priced at just £5 – and a special goody bag for the first 150 attendees -the event is a fun, affordable night out and an opportunity to meet other Twitter users, with the added bonus of raising cash for good causes.
Dan Martin, editor of BusinessZone.co.uk and lead organiser, commented, “If this year’s party is even half as good as last year’s, everyone who comes will have a fantastic time!
“While much of the activity for Twestival is driven by Twitter the event has a real community feel and is a great way for Bristol people to come together on the same day as communities around the world to raise money for a great cause.”
The Bristwestival really is a fantastic night, demonstrating the use of technology to do good in the world. Not bad for a service that often hears “whats the point of that?” scoffed from newcomers.
I’m going. Come along and say hello!
